Dangote Petroleum Refinery Commences Production of Diesel and Aviation Fuel, Paving The Way For Nigeria’s Energy Sector

In a groundbreaking development for Nigeria’s energy sector, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially announced the commencement of production for diesel and aviation fuel at its state-of-the-art refinery. This milestone achievement marks a significant step towards reducing the country’s reliance on imported petroleum products and propelling Nigeria towards self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, Nigeria,
is Africa’s largest single-train refinery, with a capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The refinery’s strategic location near the coast allows for easy exportation of refined products, positioning Nigeria as a major player in the global energy market.

With the start of diesel and aviation fuel production, Dangote Petroleum Refinery aims to meet the growing demand for these essential fuels in Nigeria and beyond. The refinery’s advanced technology and efficient processes ensure the production of high-quality, environmentally friendly fuels that adhere to international standards.

The production of diesel and aviation fuel by Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to have a transformative impact on Nigeria’s economy. By reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuels, the refinery will save billions of dollars in foreign exchange, bolstering Nigeria’s foreign reserves and strengthening its economic stability.

The statement posted on the Dangote Group official Instagram handle added that the refinery has received six million barrels of crude oil at its two DPMs located 25 kilometers from the shore. Took it’s first crude delivery in December 12, 2023, and the 6th cargo was delivered in January 8, 2024.

Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Dangote Group, expressed his pride in achieving this significant milestone.
He was quoted to having said;
“This is a big day for Nigeria, we are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game changer for our country, and I am very fulfilled with the actualization of this project ”

He appreciated and thanked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for their support in making the historical journey with them, He thanked the president, Bola Tinubu for his support and impacts in accelerating the actualization of the project, while thanking the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo- Olu and the host communities and their traditional leaders. He extended his appreciation to their bankers and financiers, both local and offshore.

And a, thanked Nigerians for believing in this project as they are optimistic that this new development will mark a significant step towards Nigeria’s goal of achieving energy independence, reduction in price of petroleum and transforming Africa’s oil and gas sector.
