K-drama superstar Song Joong-ki is preparing for a major return to KBS after a decade away from the broadcaster. He will lead the upcoming romance drama “Love Cloud,” a project already generating strong anticipation across Asia’s entertainment industry.
Reports confirm that “Love Cloud” has secured a weekend slot on KBS2. The drama is expected to air in the first half of 2027, following the broadcaster’s scheduled lineup. It will reportedly serve as a follow-up to another highly anticipated KBS production.
The story unfolds on Jeju Island, where love and weather intertwine in a poetic setting. The drama follows Kang Woo-joo, a former flight instructor, and Ahn Ha-nee, an aspiring pilot. Song Joong-ki takes on a central role that marks his first KBS drama since his global breakout hit “Descendants of the Sun.” That 2016 series turned him into one of Asia’s most recognized romantic leads and delivered peak ratings of around 38 percent in South Korea. Since then, he has expanded his range through projects like “Vincenzo” and “Reborn Rich,” but he has stayed away from KBS dramas until now.
Park Ji-hyun joins him as the female lead, while actors Lee Si-woo and Choi Hee-jin are also reviewing offers for supporting roles. Director Song Min-yeop will helm the production, aiming to blend romance with a fresh, atmospheric storytelling style.
Industry insiders say the project carries emotional weight for Song Joong-ki, given his strong history with KBS. His return signals both nostalgia and a new creative phase, especially as global interest in K-dramas continues to grow.
