Tems Launches Leading Vibe Initiative to Empower African Women in Music
GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Tems has announced the launch of the Leading Vibe Initiative, a bold new platform designed to uplift, equip, and connect the next generation of African women in music. This initiative is built for women, by women, from the continent to the world.
Rooted in her personal journey as a self-taught artist and producer navigating a male-dominated industry, Tems is now using her platform to open doors for others.
“There are thousands of young women just like me with a voice , a gift, and a desire to be heard. I want to be someone that shows people that there’s hope because I know that the most heartbreaking thing is to see a light dimmed and a fire never ignited.”
The Leading Vibe Initiative officially kicks off in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 8–9, with a two-day immersive experience featuring hands-on workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions. The program is open to women artists, songwriters, and producers aged 18–35 based in Nigeria.
Participants will receive:
Access to world-class music tools and training
Mentorship from top industry professionals.
Real-time collaboration with fellow creatives.
A platform to express themselves fully and unapologetically.
Applications are now open and will close on July 13, 2025.
While Africa’s music scene continues to soar globally, the gap in representation for women remains stark. There hasn’t always been a space for women. Women creators, women producers, women engineers and women writers. That is why I’m starting the leading vibe initiative with a mission to close the gender gap in the music industry, the initiative builds pathways for women to rise. For the ones that have a desire to be heard and a dream to be seen. The ones who dare to be different and who are just waiting for that one space that they can express and be the best versions of themselves.”
“This initiative is a movement, a wave about building a space where women are not afraid to lead and are empowered to do so.”
