Nigeria’s music industry has once again captured the global spotlight after Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy, and Asake secured major nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, reinforcing Africa’s growing influence on the international entertainment stage.
BET announced the nominations on Tuesday ahead of the star-studded ceremony scheduled for June 28, 2026, in Los Angeles. The announcement immediately sparked excitement across social media as fans celebrated another landmark moment for Nigerian music and African creativity.
Wizkid and Asake earned a joint nomination in the Best Group category following the massive success of their collaborations and chart-dominating releases. Their chemistry continues to resonate globally, especially among Afrobeats fans in Africa, Europe, and North America.
Tems emerged as one of Africa’s strongest contenders at the awards after securing three major nominations. The Grammy-winning singer received recognition in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category alongside global stars including SZA, Kehlani, Coco Jones, and Ella Mai. She also landed a BET Her Award nomination for her emotionally charged song “First” and scored a Viewers’ Choice nomination for “Raindance,” her collaboration with Dave.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy earned a Best Collaboration nomination for “WGFT,” his standout appearance on Gunna’s track. The nomination further strengthens Burna Boy’s reputation as one of Africa’s most influential crossover artists.
Nigeria’s legacy at the BET Awards continues to grow stronger every year. Wizkid remains one of Africa’s most decorated BET winners, while Burna Boy has consistently dominated global music conversations with sold-out tours and international collaborations. Previous Nigerian winners and nominees include Davido, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince, and Ayra Starr, who won Best International Act in 2025.
Beyond music, stars of Nigerian heritage also made strong appearances in the acting categories. Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo received nominations for Best Actress, while Damson Idris secured a nomination for Best Actor.
The 2026 BET Awards nomination list also features some of the biggest global names in entertainment, including Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Drake, J. Cole, Bruno Mars, Doja Cat, and SZA.
The nominations once again prove that Afrobeats has moved far beyond a regional sound into a global cultural force. Nigerian artists now command international stages, dominate streaming charts, influence fashion, and shape worldwide pop culture conversations.
For African entertainment fans, the 2026 BET Awards represents more than an awards ceremony. It marks another defining chapter in the rise of African excellence on the world stage, with Nigerian stars leading the movement.
