Emmanuel Kiyonga Develops Drug To Cure Breast Cancer
Emmanuel Kiyonga, a passionate pharmaceutical scientist, medical researcher, and entrepreneur, has developed a novel drug formulation aimed at treating breast cancer, a growing public health crisis in Uganda and across Africa.

Emmanuel graced the April digital cover of TTYBrand Africa, where he shared insights into his remarkable journey and the motivations that drive his work. In this exclusive interview, he shared his vision for a future where affordable cancer treatment is within reach for all.
Breast cancer has emerged as a significant health challenge in Uganda, with increasing incidence rates that reflect a broader trend across the African continent. His research led him to Raloxifene, used to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, which has shown promise in reducing the risk of breast cancer.
Growing up in Uganda, he witnessed firsthand the healthcare challenges that many face daily. Essential medicines, remain out of reach for countless individuals, leading to unnecessary suffering and loss of life. This stark reality ignited a passion within to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals, with the goal of making healthcare accessible and affordable for all.
The innovative formulation developed by Emmanuel not only aims to provide an effective treatment option but also seeks to address the economic barriers that plague cancer care in Africa. By leveraging local resources and collaborating with local pharmaceutical companies, he envisions a future where cancer drugs are produced domestically, significantly reducing costs and improving availability.
“Breast cancer is a growing public health crisis in Uganda and across Africa, yet treatment remains expensive and often inaccessible. Many patients struggle to afford essential drugs due to import costs, supply shortages, and limited local production” he stated.
As breast cancer rates continue to rise across Africa, his discovery could serve as a hope for millions of women and their families. By prioritizing affordability and accessibility, he aims to ensure that this life-saving treatment reaches those who need it most, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Emmanuel Kiyonga’s journey has not been without its challenges. Navigating the complexities of drug development in a resource-constrained environment has tested his resolve. However, his determination and innovative spirit have propelled him forward. He has garnered support from various stakeholders, and continue to seek support from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private investors, all of whom share the vision of a healthier Africa.
The future of healthcare in Africa looks increasingly promising. His work exemplifies the potential of African innovators to address pressing health challenges and improve the quality of life for millions.
As Emmanuel Kiyonga continues to push the boundaries of medical innovation, he remains hopeful about the future of cancer care in Africa. “Africa has historically been a consumer rather than a producer of pharmaceutical innovations, but this is changing. My work and the establishment of EMMACEUTICS is proof that African scientists and entrepreneurs can lead groundbreaking drug discoveries.
