Energy Leaders to Drive Dialogue on Energy–Mining Nexus at African Mining Week (AMW) 2025

The upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025, scheduled for October 1–3 in Cape Town, will gather global and African leaders to address the critical intersection of energy and mining. The event will highlight the role of renewable energy, critical minerals, and sustainable mining practices in driving Africa’s economic growth and global competitiveness.

Recognized as Africa’s premier platform for mining stakeholders, AMW 2025 will feature an impressive lineup of speakers, including:

• Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

• Oliver Johnston, CEO of SOLINK

• Richard Doyle, Managing Director of JUWI South Africa

• Grant Berndsen, CEO of Terra Firma

• Dr. Vincent Amu, Managing Director & CEO of Oildynamix

Francesco La Camera of IRENA will join the panel Critical Minerals & Value Creation: Africa’s Step Beyond Extraction. The session will emphasize Africa’s pivotal role in the global energy transition, with the continent holding 30% of the world’s critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, and copper—essential for renewable technologies.

Countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, the largest supplier of cobalt, and South Africa, the leading producer of platinum group metals, are expected to play a central role as demand for these minerals is projected to quadruple by 2030.

Leaders from SOLINK, JUWI South Africa, and Terra Firma will engage in the Resilient Energy Mix: Balancing Renewables and Traditional Resources for Sustainable Mining panel. This discussion will focus on strategies to integrate renewable energy into mining operations, improve energy security, lower costs, and support ESG commitments.

Oildynamix will host a technical workshop presenting innovative technologies and services aimed at improving efficiency in drilling, exploration, and production within the mining and extractive sectors.

Beyond panels and workshops, AMW 2025 will feature deal signings, project showcases, and exclusive networking opportunities designed to strengthen collaboration across the energy–mining value chain.

Under the theme From Extraction to Beneficiation: Unlocking Africa’s Mineral Wealth, the conference aims to advance Africa’s sustainable development agenda by linking mining stakeholders with global investors and energy leaders.
