Ethiopia Launches “Buy Ethiopian” Trade Week to Boost Local Production

Ethiopia’s push for domestic production self-sufficiency took center stage as the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration formally inaugurated the second annual Trade Week, themed “Buy Ethiopian.”

The high-profile event was officially opened in Addis Ababa in the presence of H.E. President Taye Atsekeslassie and Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, State Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The initiative, now in its second year, underscores Ethiopia’s growing efforts to reduce import dependency while boosting homegrown industries. By encouraging citizens to prioritize locally made products, the campaign aims to strengthen national industries, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.

Officials highlighted the program’s early impact, noting significant strides in local manufacturing, agribusiness, and textiles. “Buy Ethiopian is not just a slogan—it is an economic pathway toward self-reliance and national pride,” Ambassador Berhanu stated during the opening ceremony.

The Trade Week will feature exhibitions, policy dialogues, and networking opportunities for Ethiopian entrepreneurs, producers, and investors, showcasing the country’s expanding industrial capacity.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to building a sustainable domestic economy through innovation, strategic investments, and support for small and medium enterprises.

As Ethiopia accelerates its journey toward economic transformation, the “Buy Ethiopian” campaign is expected to play a crucial role in shaping consumer behavior and strengthening the local market.
