There’s no better time to be African than now. The richness of our diversity in our culture is finally gaining the appreciation it deserves and I believe African media isn’t any different. -Azeezah Hashim

Let’s meet you, who is Azeezah Hashim and how did your journey into media begin?

To my country and beyond, Azeezah Hashim is a multi-award winning global host. A TV and Radio host, Corporate and events MC, Moderator, DJ, Voice over artist and so much more. But simply put Azeezah is a young girl from a small neighborhood in Calif, a risk taker, with a big dream and an incredible work ethic to make things happen.

You go by the brand name; “The Media Messiah” What inspired this title?

The name ‘Media Messiah’ was actually given to me by one of my supporters a few years via DM and I took it up to challenge myself to be a path breaker and leader in my field.

Let’s talk about building your brand and career challenges. You’ve carved a unique space for yourself in Kenya’s media scene, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced on your journey?

I believe every beautiful journey does have its own fair share of challenges and along my journey I’ve faced different kinds in every stage from not knowing how to negotiate contracts hence having people dupe you at the beginning of your career. But over the years I’ve learnt to navigate the tides.

You wear many hats as a TV host, radio presenter, MC, DJ, and VO artist. How do you balance all these roles while staying true to your core identity?

Balancing all the different things I do, honestly, can be a bit overwhelming as I’m only one person but my identity has never been tied to just one thing. I believe in being a multifaceted Queen, every aspect of the different things I do is what my core identity actually is.

As a media personality, In what ways do you think African media is evolving and how are you using your platforms, TV, radio, events to promote African excellence and amplify local voices?

Oohh My! There’s no better time to be African than now. The richness of our diversity in our culture is finally gaining the appreciation it deserves and I believe African media isn’t any different. I for one, I’m using my platforms to amplify the story of a girl from the normal African hood who can grace and kill it on global stages with media as the sailing ship.

Can you share with us your proudest moments so far?

I think everyday God surprises me with bigger, better and more memories to be proud of so to narrow it to a few would be limiting my gratitude to him. I’ve had the privilege of hosting all the biggest events and artists in East Africa, won all kinds of awards but I believe to be loved and accepted in countries outside my home is what I’m most grateful for.

Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or dreams you’re currently pursuing?

My number 1 dream is to be the first East African Female Media Personality to have her own show on E! News, host different MTV Awards and BET.

If you had the global stage for 60 seconds to tell the world something about Africa, what would you say?

We often say that Africa is the future and I believe the future is finally here. We are the now! We’re fresh, we’re authentic, we’re beautifully diverse and we’re rich in every possible way. Rich in culture, rich in confidence, intelligence and every other thing in between.

Finally, what legacy do you hope to leave behind in the media industry?

It is my hope to be remembered as the girl who was true to herself, true to her journey, lived by her truth authentically, never gave up, earned every great thing that came her way and with that, inspired a movement of African girls who took over the world.
