Afrobeats star Rema will take the global stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Los Angeles. FIFA confirmed the lineup on Saturday. The announcement places him among some of the biggest names in global music.
South African star Tyla will also perform. She joins a powerful roster that includes Future, Katy Perry, Brazil’s Anitta, and BLACKPINK member LISA.
FIFA said the opening ceremony will run across three host nations. Mexico City will host its celebration on June 11, 2026. Toronto and Los Angeles will follow on June 12. The organization designed the events to reflect football’s global reach and cultural power.
FIFA World Cup 2026 will feature 104 matches across 16 cities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The tournament begins in Mexico City and ends at the New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the Los Angeles ceremony as a symbol of global entertainment influence. He said the event will highlight the cultural diversity of the United States. He also stressed music’s role in uniting fans across continents.
The Los Angeles show will start 90 minutes before kickoff. Organizers will blend music, visuals, and storytelling. Balich Wonder Studio will produce the ceremony. They will also center the show on the FIFA World Cup Trophy, using large-scale immersive stage design.
This lineup strengthens the World Cup’s shift toward entertainment-driven sports experiences. It also places African and global diaspora artists at the center of one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
