BREAKING: President William Ruto Defends Building Church in State House: I Have No Apologies To Make For Building a Church
President William Ruto has confirmed the construction of a new church within the premises of Kenya’s State House in Nairobi. The project, estimated to cost KES 1.2 billion, is reportedly being funded through the president’s personal resources.
In remarks made earlier today 4th of July, President Ruto stated that the church is part of a fulfillment of a vow he made in March 2025 to “build God’s church in Kenya.” He emphasized that no public funds are being used in the construction.
“I have no apologies to make for building a church. I will build the church even if Satan gets angry. Let Satan do what he wants,” said President Ruto. I found a mabati church here. Does that fit State House? I am using my own money, not government money. I did not start building the church; I found it built, only that it was a mabati one.”
The development has drawn national attention, with mixed reactions from political commentators, religious leaders, and members of the public. Some have praised the president’s commitment to faith, while others have raised concerns over the symbolism and location of the project, given the official and secular nature of the State House.
The church, which replaces an earlier iron-sheet structure used for worship within the State House compound, is currently under construction. Specific architectural plans and timelines for completion have not yet been disclosed.
This marks a rare instance of a sitting head of state to build a major religious structure within an official government residence.
The story continues to develop.
