Former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida has added another powerful achievement to her growing legacy after graduating from Columbia University with a Master of Public Administration degree.
The Limpopo-born model, author and mental health advocate, Shudufhadzo Musida, completed her studies at Columbia’s prestigious School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), where she specialised in International Finance and Economic Policy. Her latest milestone has sparked celebration across social media, with fans praising her dedication to education, leadership and personal growth.

She shared emotional reflections about her academic journey in New York City, describing it as a season filled with growth, resilience and meaningful friendships. Although she often faced moments of loneliness as an international student far away from South Africa, she said the experience helped her discover a strong sense of community.
Reflecting on the memories she will treasure the most from her time at SIPA, Shudufhadzo Musida shared a heartfelt message with followers online.
“What will you miss most? My capstone field trip remains my favorite memory of my SIPA experience. We met remarkable clients, built something we were genuinely proud of, and did work that felt meaningful. But what I will carry with me the longest is the team. People so warm and so wonderful I would invite them to my wedding one day.”

She continued: “As an international student, loneliness can creep in quietly. This trip reminded me that community is not just possible, it is something you can find, even far from home. I fell in love with that idea all over again. —Shudu”
Throughout her studies, Shudufhadzo Musida balanced life between Johannesburg and New York while documenting her experiences online. She regularly opened up about adjusting to life in the United States, sharing honest moments about navigating New York’s busy lifestyle, public transport and personal growth.
In one of her social media videos, she joked about finally overcoming anxiety around using the New York subway system. Her relatable content resonated with many young Africans studying abroad and building careers internationally.
At the same time, she also addressed speculation surrounding her personal life with humour after a social media user suggested she should be preparing for marriage. Responding playfully, she replied: “I am?”
Ahead of graduation, the former beauty queen posted a heartfelt carousel showing memories from her time at Columbia University, including orientation week and moments from her first academic year.
“Pens down, Incoming Colombia Grad. To God be all the glory,” she wrote.
“The last 12 frames from my first year of school hit different now. From the first week of orientation to the end of first year.”
Her achievement quickly attracted congratulatory messages from celebrities, academics and supporters across Africa. Award-winning clinical psychologist Anele Siswana praised Musida’s success and celebrated African excellence on the global stage.
