Sheikh Hamdan Launches Dh1 Billion UAE Space Programme

Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled a massive Dh1 billion International Space Cooperation Programme as the UAE intensifies its push to become one of the world’s leading space and innovation hubs.

The new initiative will support research and development across the space sector while helping the country localise advanced technologies and expand international partnerships. More importantly, the programme places strong attention on empowering Emirati talent to lead the future of the rapidly growing global space industry.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by Sheikh Hamdan, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council. The Dubai Crown Prince described the space industry as a strategic pillar in the UAE’s long-term economic vision.

According to Sheikh Hamdan, the UAE continues to build a future economy powered by knowledge, science, and innovation. He stressed that the country remains committed to strengthening its global position in the competitive space sector while creating opportunities for young Emiratis to shape the future.

The ambitious programme arrives at a time when nations across the world are racing to dominate the next era of space exploration, satellite technology, artificial intelligence, and scientific innovation. However, the UAE has steadily positioned itself as one of the Middle East’s most ambitious players in the industry.

Over the past few years, the UAE has captured global attention through groundbreaking projects and strategic investments in science and technology. Those achievements continue to inspire a new generation of innovators across the region.

Sheikh Hamdan praised the country’s youth and expressed confidence in their ability to transform bold ambitions into achievements that benefit humanity both on Earth and beyond. His comments reinforced the UAE’s growing belief that innovation, education, and technology will define the next phase of global economic power.

The Dh1 billion initiative also signals the UAE’s determination to strengthen international collaboration in space science while reducing dependence on foreign technologies. At the same time, the programme is expected to attract researchers, scientists, technology firms, and global institutions seeking partnerships in one of the world’s fastest-growing innovation markets.

As the global space economy expands into a trillion-dollar industry, the UAE continues to move aggressively to secure a leadership role. Analysts believe initiatives like this could accelerate regional technological development, create high-value jobs, and position Dubai as a major center for future space innovation.

The latest announcement further strengthens the UAE’s reputation as a forward-looking nation investing heavily in science, research, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology infrastructure.
