Kenya is set to strengthen its position as a regional hub for global events, investment, and diplomatic engagement with the construction of the Bomas of Kenya International Conference Centre (BICC) an ultra-modern facility slated for completion by April 2026.
Speaking on the development, President William Samoei Ruto confirmed that the new BICC will stand as the largest conference centre in East and Central Africa, showcasing Kenya’s ambition to advance its conference tourism sector and elevate Nairobi’s profile as a continental business destination.
The state-of-the-art complex will replace the historic Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), which has served as a landmark venue since 1973. With the capacity to host over 10,000 delegates, BICC is designed to meet modern demands for large-scale gatherings, featuring cutting-edge infrastructure tailored for high-level international summits, exhibitions, and conventions.
The facility has already secured its inaugural major event—the Africa-France Summit set for May 2026, boosting the confidence of global partners in Kenya’s expanding event and diplomatic ecosystem.
Beyond its architectural scale and features, the BICC project is expected to serve as an economic catalyst, boosting conference tourism, creating employment opportunities, and stimulating hospitality and service industries across Nairobi. Analysts note that such investments strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness and support broader national development goals.
As construction progresses, the BICC positions Kenya at the forefront of Africa’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry signalling a new era for regional connectivity, global partnerships, and trade diplomacy.
