Dangote Group Appoints Jamil Abubakar as MD Infrastructure & Logistics

Dangote Group has appointed Jamil Mohammed Abubakar as Managing Director for Infrastructure and Logistics, a move that signals a strong push to expand its logistics network and strengthen trade across Africa. The appointment takes immediate effect and places him at the center of the group’s long-term growth strategy.

The decision reflects the vision of Aliko Dangote to build a more efficient and scalable logistics backbone. As a result, Abubakar will oversee the group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform. This unit plays a critical role in Dangote’s Vision 2030 agenda, which focuses on creating integrated, pan-African logistics systems.

He will report directly to Dangote and lead efforts to identify new infrastructure opportunities. At the same time, he will drive expansion across Nigeria and key African markets. This approach aims to unlock new trade corridors while improving the movement of goods across borders.

Abubakar brings more than 14 years of aviation experience into the role. Over the years, he has worked with airlines such as IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle, and XE Jets. His background in flight operations, safety management, and crew leadership positions him well for complex logistics coordination.

He previously served as Chief Pilot at Azman Air and NG Eagle, where he managed fleet operations and ensured strict safety compliance. In addition, his role as a Captain at XE Jets exposed him to high-performance private aviation systems. Earlier in his career, he operated Boeing 737 aircraft and built strong technical expertise in commercial aviation.

Beyond aviation, Abubakar has gained experience in governance and investment. He currently serves on the board of Greenview Development Nigeria Limited. He also held a director role at Aximites Energy Limited. Furthermore, he contributed to public sector development through positions linked to investment and public-private partnerships in Zamfara State.

Academically, he holds a degree in Information Systems and Multimedia, supported by training in Business Information Technology and several aviation certifications. This blend of technical and management expertise strengthens his leadership profile.

Dangote Group expects the new managing director to improve operational efficiency and expand infrastructure capacity. Moreover, he will work closely with senior leadership to enhance automation across logistics operations. These efforts aim to support industrial growth and position the company as a key driver of African trade.

The appointment highlights Dangote Group’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure that supports economic development. As Africa’s demand for efficient logistics rises, strategic leadership in this sector will remain critical.
