Ghanaians Can Now Travel to Morocco Without a Visa

Ghanaian citizens can now travel to Morocco without a visa, following a new agreement between the governments of Ghana and Morocco. The move is part of ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two African nations.

The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a statement issued on Friday, June 7, 2025. According to the minister, the visa-free policy takes immediate effect.

Under the new arrangement, Ghanaian travelers will no longer need to visit the Moroccan Embassy for a visa. Instead, they will be able to obtain a simplified online travel authorisation within 24 hours making the process quicker and more accessible.

“This is one of the key agreements reached during my two-day working visit with Morocco’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Nasser Bourita,” Ablakwa stated.

The policy is expected to enhance travel between the two countries, driving growth in tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. Officials also noted that direct flights between Ghana and Morocco are already in place, with more expected to follow to support increased travel demand.

Minister Ablakwa emphasized that this agreement reflects a broader continental vision for unity and collaboration. “The borders in Africa must not divide us, they should be bridges of connectivity,” he said. “Diplomacy must bring real benefits to the people we serve.”

This milestone aligns with the African Union’s long-standing goal of promoting free movement across the continent. It adds momentum to the push for a visa-free Africa, a core objective under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the broader “Africa Unite” agenda, which envisions a more integrated and borderless continent.

The visa waiver is seen as a significant step toward that vision, paving the way for stronger ties and increased opportunities for citizens of both Ghana and Morocco.
