Ireland Deports 42 South African Nationals in Major Immigration

Ireland has deported 42 South African nationals in one of its latest immigration enforcement operations, highlighting the government’s continued efforts to strengthen compliance with immigration laws and deportation procedures.

The operation, carried out by the Garda National Immigration Bureau, resulted in the removal of 42 individuals from the country on a chartered flight departing Dublin on Thursday afternoon and arriving in South Africa on Friday morning.

Authorities confirmed that all those removed from Ireland were subject to deportation orders issued by Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan. The group consisted of 27 adults, including nine men and 18 women, alongside 15 juveniles who formed part of family units.

The deportation exercise reflects Ireland’s increasing focus on enforcing immigration regulations while addressing cases involving individuals who no longer hold the legal right to remain in the country. Officials also disclosed that two of the deported individuals had previous criminal convictions within Ireland.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the operation formed part of ongoing nationwide immigration enforcement activities. Authorities stated that immigration officers continue to collaborate closely with the Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service to execute deportation orders and maintain the integrity of Ireland’s immigration system.

The latest removals come as Ireland continues to modernize its immigration administration. In 2024, the Department of Justice assumed responsibility for administrative immigration registration functions previously handled by An Garda Síochána, a move designed to streamline immigration services and improve operational efficiency.
