Ibrahim Mahama Pays First $2 Million of $5 Million World Cup Pledge as Ghana Targets 2026 FIFA World Cup

Multi-millionaire Ibrahim Mahama has delivered the first $2 million installment of his $5 million pledge to strengthen Ghana’s push toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving the country’s football ambitions a major financial boost.

The payment came through his company, Engineers and Planners, and officials formally presented it to Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem on April 30, 2026. However, authorities confirmed the money had already reached the designated account before the public ceremony.

Speaking during the symbolic presentation, officials praised the swift commitment and described the gesture as a strong sign of confidence in Ghana’s football future. As a result, the contribution now stands as one of the biggest private-sector commitments toward Ghana’s World Cup preparations.

The fundraising campaign aims to finance crucial areas such as training camps, travel logistics, sports infrastructure, player welfare, and international engagements ahead of the global tournament, which will take place in United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Moreover, support has surged from across Ghana’s business and entertainment sectors. Gold Fields Ghana committed $2 million, with another $1 million expected later. Meanwhile, KGL Group pledged GH₵10 million, with half already paid.

In addition, Serene Insurance announced GH₵2 million alongside a GH₵20 million insurance package. Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy also joined the campaign with combined donations exceeding $200,000. Organisers also confirmed an anonymous donor added $1 million.

Further backing came from Alex Okyere, who donated GH₵240,000, while Timeline and Innovation Company contributed $300,000. Consequently, total fundraising has now crossed the $12 million mark toward the overall $30 million target.

With Ghana facing a difficult qualifying path, pressure is rising for early preparation and world-class support systems. Therefore, the remaining $3 million expected from Ibrahim Mahama’s pledge could become the single largest private contribution to Ghana’s World Cup mission.
