MacKenzie Scott continues to redefine modern philanthropy while maintaining her place among the world’s wealthiest women.
The billionaire author and philanthropist has donated more than $26 billion to thousands of nonprofit organizations since 2019, yet her fortune continues to grow, driven by the rising value of her remaining Amazon shares.
Scott’s latest contribution is a $20 million donation to Active Minds, a nonprofit dedicated to youth mental health. According to reports, the gift is the largest in the organization’s history and further expands Scott’s extraordinary record of unrestricted charitable giving.
Despite distributing billions of dollars, Scott remains one of the world’s richest women. Forbes estimates her net worth at approximately $31.4 billion, while the Bloomberg Billionaires Index values her wealth at about $35.7 billion in 2026.
The continued appreciation of Amazon stock has played a significant role in preserving her fortune. Following her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019, Scott received a four percent stake in Amazon that was valued at roughly $36 billion. Although she has sold shares to fund charitable initiatives, the company’s long term stock growth has replenished much of her wealth.
Scott has adopted a distinctive approach to philanthropy by bypassing the traditional foundation model. Instead, she provides large unrestricted grants directly to nonprofit organizations, allowing recipients to determine how the funds should be used without extensive reporting requirements or restrictive conditions.
Between 2020 and 2025, Scott donated approximately $26.2 billion, including $7.2 billion in 2025 alone. That total represented nearly one third of all megagifts made in the United States during the year.
Her giving spans a wide range of sectors including education, affordable housing, public health, food security, disaster response, racial equity and mental health.
Among her recent donations are $70 million to Meals on Wheels, $45 million to The Trevor Project and the latest $20 million grant to Active Minds.
Scott’s philanthropic strategy is notable for its humility. Many recipient organizations reportedly discover they have received funding only after grants have been approved. She also avoids publicity, rarely seeks public recognition and does not request buildings or programs be named after her.
Much of Scott’s wealth traces back to Amazon’s earliest days. Before the company became a global technology giant, she worked alongside Jeff Bezos, contributing to bookkeeping, administrative work and even helping ship the company’s first customer orders.
Beyond business, Scott is also an accomplished novelist. Her books The Testing of Luther Albright and Traps earned critical recognition before she became internationally known for her philanthropy.
Scott’s financial journey highlights how long term ownership of high performing assets can generate substantial wealth even alongside large scale charitable giving. As Amazon’s market value continues to rise, the growth in her remaining shares has consistently offset much of what she has donated.
Through her philanthropic platform, Yield Giving, Scott has repeatedly emphasized that generosity should empower communities rather than celebrate donors. Her model has become ione of the most closely watched examples of trust based philanthropy, inspiring conversations among philanthropists, investors and nonprofit leaders worldwide.
For African entrepreneurs, family offices and high net worth individuals, Scott’s approach demonstrates how wealth creation and social impact can work together when long term investing is combined with strategic giving.
